Reminders…

Hi Students,

I find that usually everyone knows how to print the Assignment Sheets and complete the problems for the second week of homework.  However, here are a few reminders of things students commonly forget for the second class:

  • PLEASE re-read and follow carefully the Lab Report Format posted to the Homework page (4th bullet point) as you complete your Prelabs in your lab notebook this week.  We went over this in class, but please look back at it as you work.  Don’t forget to copy the blank table (using a ruler) into your lab notebook, too.  Use blue or black ink.
  • Remember to punch holes in your Lab Safety Contract and Syllabus, and place them as the first two items in your binder.  I will check all of them this week.  No signed contract = no lab participation = zero for lab this week.
  • Dress appropriately… get used to covering your feet and legs.  Not dressed appropriately =  no lab participation = zero for lab this week.
  • Study the flashcards on Engrade.  These are the conversions the quiz will cover on Aug 28.
  • Don’t forget your signed Assignment Sheet.  This is your homework grade!

See you Thursday!  jb

HW due August 21 is posted!

Students,

I enjoyed seeing each of you in class today.  I hope you enjoyed it, too.  If not, there’s only 29 more classes to go! 🙂

Your homework for next week is posted on the homework page.  Please don’t hesitate to email or call with questions (before noon on Wednesday if you need a response by Thursday).  Many of the concepts we are covering are new for you… factor-label method, significant figures, writing a lab report properly.  The list goes on, so please ask if you need help.

Remember there will be a quiz August 28 over the metric conversions, the lab equipment drawings/table, and the lab safety contract.

For your lab report, please use the linked handout on the Homework page (do not use the Unit Conversion Lab in the book!).  Also, please use the Lab Report Format which is also linked to the Homework page, and don’t forget to copy the empty table into your Data section before class!

I will see you next week!  jb

Parent Meeting, Enrichment

Parents-

The Parent Meeting for all chemistry classes will take place August 14, 2014 (first day of class) @ 3- 3:30 PM.  Please make every effort to attend if you are new to my chemistry classes.

For any students who are ready to get those math juices flowing, start on this assignment here.  Also, this video on dimensional analysis (or any of them on that page) will be helpful with the first chapter of the book.  Units act like variables!  Who knew!?

Be sure to login in first or create an account on Khan.  Also, remember that the first class assignment is posted on the homework page.

See you soon!

(And of course, all class supplies and completed homework.)

I look forward to seeing you then!

One more reminder…

Just to remind you one more time:

1- the Final Exam will be given in class this week.
2- You will need a pencil and calculator (please clear the memory, or you will have to use my calc.)
3- I can not let you go early, so plan to stay for the entire class period. You can bring a snack to share (no peanuts, please).

I’ll see you one last time Thursday! JB

Good work with the redox reaction today!

Here are a few things to remember as we close out the school year:

1. Next week you will take the final exam in class.  There is no homework this week, except to study. You will need a pencil and calculator for the exam.  You may also bring a snack to share. (I can’t allow you to leave early, so plan on staying the entire class period.)

2. I plan for final grades to be complete by May 8.

3. After May 1, you may unsubscribe (at the bottom) from these mailings, unless you just want to continue hearing from me :).

4. Registration for Bridge classes will take place May 2. Anatomy and physics are both classes you would be qualified to take.

I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching you this year. It has been great fun! Don’t be surprised if you see a tear in my eye next week, I will miss you. May God continue his saving, sanctifying work in your hearts!

Enjoy your summer!

Class #28

Students,

Please remember that at the end of class this week, we will review for the exam.  Please print and bring your old tests and calculators with you. (Remember that bringing your calculator is part of your grade, too.  Some of you have slacked in this area the last 3-4 weeks.)  The review will not help you if you aren’t prepared with these items.

Also, your last week of homework is posted.  Don’t cry, it will be ok… I’m sure you will find something else valuable to do with your time after May 1. 🙂

See you Thursday!  jb
