Periodic Tables & Lab

Students,

Don’t forget to print and bring two copies of the Periodic Table linked to the Homework page of the site to class this week. (You will need to make notes on one of them in class. The clean copy is to use for tests.)

And as always, bring prelabs and postlabs (including calculations), and dress appropriately for lab 🙂

See you soon! jb

Homework due Sept. 10

Students,

Thank you for being prepared with your Postlabs and Prelabs today!

Um

A few reminders for this week:

  • Element/Symbol & Covalent Prefixes (on p.91) Quiz is Sept 17- study the flashcards… as I stated in class, spelling counts!
  • Please finish your calculations from lab 2.2 (if you didn’t already finish in class).  See p. 29 in the Solutions Manual for help.
  • Labor Day is this week- no homework! Yay!
  • Please view these videos pertaining to Module 3. If you have a Khan Academy account (optional, but recommended), log in first and then view the videos:

See you next week!  jb

Remember…

Don’t forget to dress appropriately for lab Thursday.  And bring your calculators so that you don’t lose points!  You must bring them EVERY class (see your syllabus that you already signed).

Quiz tomorrow, too.  See homework page for more info.

Check the “In Class” page to see exactly what we will be doing!  See you soon! jb

Homework due Aug 27 | Module 1 Test

Good job today, everyone!  I hope that you are getting into the routine of things with this class.  I know there’s so much that is new.  Remember to always ask questions when you have them.

Your new homework is posted.  You’ll notice that my Module 1 Test is posted, too.  Please take the book test first (and check it on your own)- you’ll be glad you did!  Then take my test to turn in Aug 27.  You must show your work for all the math problems and use correct significant figures :).

burnerBurners next week, so as always, dress appropriately!

Have a wonderful week!  jb

Class Aug 20

Hey Guys,

Just a quick reminder that you will need to bring:

  • your syllabus and lab safety contract signed this week (for a grade)
  • your lab notebook with Unit Conversion Prelab handwritten (linked to the homework page; don’t wait until Thursday to ask about the format and content.  Email me tonight or tomorrow before noon)
  • appropriate lab dress (just to get in the habit)
  • your homework assignment sheet (signed) & your homework (always, in case there’s a quiz)
  • a metric ruler

See you in a couple of days!  jb

Aug 20 Homework is posted!

Students,

I enjoyed seeing each of you in class today.  I hope you enjoyed it, too.  If not, there’s only 29 more classes to go! 🙂

Your homework for next week is posted on the homework page (HW due Aug 20).  Please don’t hesitate to email or call with questions (before noon on Wednesday if you need a response by Thursday).  Many of the concepts we are covering are new for you… factor-label method, significant figures, writing a lab report properly.  The list goes on, so please ask if you need help.

Remember there will be a quiz August 27 over the metric conversion factors, the lab equipment drawings/table (you will get these next week), and the lab safety contract.

For your lab report this week, please use the linked “Unit Conversion Lab” handout on the Homework page (do not use the Unit Conversion Lab in the book!).  Also, please use the Lab Report Format which is also linked to the Homework page, and don’t forget to copy the empty table into your Data section before class!

If you want some help with Module 1 and the conversions, see this video.

I will see you next week!  jb

Welcome to 2016- 2017 Chemistry @ The Bridge!

homework

Parents & Students,

If you are receiving this post, then you have correctly “followed” my chemistry page.  👏🏼 You will receive most all class updates related to homework and assignments from this blog.  Tell your friends who have not yet “followed” me to do it ASAP (there are several who have not followed me)!

The first and second homework assignments are now posted (Due Aug 11 & 18).  Please bring your printed, completed, and signed Assignment Sheet (Aug 11), as well as, your signed Syllabus and Lab Safety Contract to class with you tomorrow. (And of course, all class supplies and completed homework.)

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

JB

Exams and final grades

Students,

Wow! You made it! Thirty weeks of compound naming, formula writing, reactions, and lots of math.

You have accomplished so much in what really is a short amount of time. You will remember this class for the rest of your lives 🙂 … Maybe for good, maybe for bad, ha! I think you will remember it nonetheless, hopefully for the challenge it presented and as an obstacle which the Lord granted you grace to overcome (and maybe even enjoy).

If I can help you with any of those dual enrollment chemistry courses, you know I would be happy to do it. Just let me know.

Enjoy your summer and take time to thank God for it. It is a privilege and opportunity. Ask him to show you what he would have you do with your time over the next 2-3 months.

Your exam (with curve) and final grades are posted. Some of you have really impressed me. Good job!

By his grace alone,

Mrs. Jill
