Good work today! I will send the identity of the unknowns soon. In your Postlab, be sure you include all the items listed on your Assignment Sheet for full Postlab credit.
I’ll see you in a week! jb
Homeschool Chemistry Classes in the Memphis Area
A student found a typo on the test and called today… The question in #8 should read, “If the reaction in problem 7 was run with excess water…”
Thanks! jb
Students-
I’m getting several questions today about this, so I thought I’d send this to everyone. For your Flame Test Prelab, write up the usual lab report in your lab notebook (sections I-IV) using the handout. Don’t copy the handout, put it in your own words.
Do you remember the Unit Conversion Lab? We did the same thing. Use the handout just as you would use an experiment written in the book. There are no changes to the format.
Thanks! JB
Hey Guys,
As you are finishing your handout from today, it might be helpful to have the answers to the remaining three problems. Here you go:
1- 2.88g
2- 5.5g
3- 7.12 g
4- 9.167 X 10^-3 g
5- 0.365g
The balancing on #5 is hard, so as always, call or email with questions! jb
Ok Gang,
Your new homework is posted. Only 4 classes to go until Christmas Break! Let’s finish strong. Check your homework and call/email with questions. Have a great week! jb

Students-
You are on the downhill slope now… only 5 classes to go before Christmas Break! Yay! Keep working hard and finish well.
If you are having trouble with Stoichiometry, try watching this video (or any of them down the left-hand side of that page). Also, work on the exercises on the left side of that page. Please remember that you are welcome to stop by after class for extra help (or call/email). It usually only takes a minute or two for me to help with any questions.
Don’t forget to finish the calculations from today’s lab. Use the Solutions Manual (p.39) for help. This is part of your postlab grade.
New homework is posted. I will see you next week! jb
Hey Gang,
Hope you enjoyed the Mole Lab! Your new homework is posted. Remember to call with any questions… we are getting into some difficult math.
In the meantime, feel free to begin working through any of these stoichiometry videos/exercises for extra help: https://www.khanacademy.org/science/chemistry/chemical-reactions-stoichiometry
Have a great week! jb
Students,
I need to correct two errors… On my last email, I wrote that we resume Oct 14. The Bridge resumes that day, chemistry will resume October 16. I’m sure you figure that out. Also, on the Balancing Equations Worksheet #1, please skip #12-15. I’ll explain why later. :). Thanks! JB
Students,
We will not meet again until October 14 due to Fall Break. Your new homework is posted. Enjoy your break and be safe as you”combust” around town in a vehicle! Aren’t we glad God made hydrocarbons!?
See you in two weeks! JB
Students,
We will meet next week, but Fall Break is coming… October 6-10. No class or homework that week.
Your new homework is posted. Try this link for an interactive exercise. Don’t forge to log in first. This exercise will get you ready for what we are going to do during lab time on Thursday. Pay no attention to the programming side of things (on the left), just play around with the reaction side. When the reaction is balanced, all of the atoms will be used up. Cool, huh?
Have a great week! See you next Thursday! jb
