Caution…

Hey Kiddos- this is a friendly reminder that even with warmer weather, you still need to cover your legs and feet for chemistry class! No exceptions.  See you soon, jb

Winter break!

So, winter break is here!  Sadly, we did not get to complete our lab today, but we had some good teaching time to clear up any misunderstandings about titrations and such.

You’ll notice on the homework that there is not a lab linked for Feb 11. We will perform the titration, which you’ve already written up.  Do not write up another prelab.
Enjoy your time off, and I’ll return emails on Feb 8 when I’m back in town. jb

Beginning Acids and Bases

Hey Folks,

Good job with the models today.  I think you’ve got the hang of the geometry.  With that said, remember your Geometry Quiz is next week (Jan 21).  You will also notice that you have an Acids Quiz on Jan 28.  Please study those over the next two weeks.

As you begin studying acids and bases this week, this section at Khan Academy should be quite helpful. We will use several indicators next week to observe the effects of pH. Be sure to hand write/copy the linked data table into your pre-lab you write for Lab 10.1.

One last note, Pre-registration for class next year begins Feb 1.  Chemistry students would be ready for physics or anatomy. Keep this in mind 🙂

I’ll see you next week! jb

Classes start this week

Hey Guys,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas break! I am sure you all know this, but just in case, chemistry starts back this Thursday, Jan 7.  You have a week of homework due that day (it has been posted since we got out Dec 3).

We will also be having the Polyatomic Ion Quiz (see p.288) at the beginning of class.

For lab, bring a plastic comb for Lab 9.1 (don’t forget a prelab). If time, we will also begin the Molecular Geometry lab with models.

I’ll see you Thursday!

Christmas Break!

Hey Kiddos,

chem christmas cardYou did it! You are halfway…  Good work!

I hope your break is restful and fun. Remember that you have one week of homework due Jan 7, along with a quiz that day (p288 ions).

I should have exam grades posted by Monday. For those of you who need to complete the Naming Ionic Compounds Worksheet, it is now posted (for practice) on last week’s homework. I hope to go over it on Jan 7.

Have a Merry Christmas! jb

Semester Exam, etc.

Students,

In case you have forgotten… we will be having our Semester Exam this Thursday in class.  🙂 Please be sure you have your calculator!!!

If there is time remaining after the exam, we will be building molecular models for our lab, utilizing Lewis dot structures.  You may bring a snack to share during this time (no nuts, please).

You are almost halfway done with the class! You have worked hard; let’s finish strong on the exam Thursday.

See you soon!

Old tests, etc.

keep calm chemHey Gang,

Good news! Your old tests are now linked to the Homework page of the website (second bullet).

Remember that we have one more regular class next week and then the exam is Dec. 3.  You may bring a snack to share Dec 3 after the exam (no nuts, please). We will finish our molecular geometry models during the rest of the class time after the exam.

See you next week! jb
